What is Psychodynamic Psychotherapy
Psychodynamic therapy is a collaborative journey of self-exploration. It combines clinical methods with the therapeutic relationship to help individuals recognize patterns of thought and behavior that may limit their emotional freedom or functioning. Within a safe and supportive environment, individuals can explore their thoughts and feelings, change unhelpful patterns, and develop healthier ways of thinking, feeling, and behaving. The therapeutic relationship is central, allowing patients to experience, learn, and grow alongside their therapist, ultimately achieving symptom relief and an improved quality of life.
Psychodynamic therapy is personalized and unique. Common themes include relationship difficulties, struggles with responsibilities at school or work, feelings of helplessness, trauma, sadness, excessive worry, or hopelessness. Others may seek a psychodynamic approach to deepen self-understanding, cultivate self-acceptance, clarify life purpose, or simply to explore and know themselves more fully.

What should I expect during my first evaluation?
During your first visit, we will conduct a comprehensive assessment of your mental health. How often will I need to be seen?
Follow-up appointments are tailored to your individual needs. Initially, and depending on your difficulties, we will typically meet every 2 to 6 weeks to make sure our plan is working effectively for you. Once you are feeling more like yourself and no changes need to be made, we will generally schedule you for a follow up visit every 2 to 3 months to support your ongoing wellness. If you are coming in for therapy, sessions are typically held once a week or every other week. These timelines are flexible; we will always prioritize a personalized schedule that reflects your unique needs.
